Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is a therapeutic approach used to promote improved motor function in children with motor delays or neurological conditions. DMI promotes the development of gross motor milestones including rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, transitional movements, and walking. Therapy is hands-on, highly individualized, and focused on activating neuroplasticity through precise movement-based exercises.
Who is it for?
DMI is for children with any type of motor delay. DMI is an intensive approach to therapy promoting the development of gross motor milestones including rolling, sitting, crawling, standing, transitional movements, and walking.
DMI may benefit children with:
Developmental delays
Hypotonia or hypertonia
Cerebral palsy
Genetic conditions
Gross motor delays
Spinal cord lesions
Acquired brain injury
Children at risk, such as those who are born prematurely can also benefit from this therapy due to the strong neuroplastic changes that this treatment stimulates within the developing brain.
Children do not need a formal diagnosis to participate.
Location
Watts Therapy will meet you in your home, school, or any public area approved by the therapist. An additional travel fee may apply for locations outside our standard service area.
What to Expect
Intensive therapy programs are designed to provide concentrated support over a short period of time. Intensives typically run for 3–5 consecutive days, with 1–2 sessions per day for two weeks. We recognize this schedule may not work for every family and can also recommend alternatives such as two sessions per week or two sessions per day, based on individual needs.
Each session lasts 45 minutes and is tailored to the child’s goals. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to observe, participate, and receive home carryover strategies to support ongoing progress outside of therapy.
Sessions may include a variety of approaches, such as Whole Body Vibration, Electrical Stimulation, Primitive Reflex Integration, Neuro-Developmental Treatment, and manual techniques to stretch and release tightness throughout the body.
